Simbionix’s URO Mentor medical simulator provides the most comprehensive endourology hands-on training and practice opportunities for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The URO Mentor provides a unique opportunity to work with a variety of scopes, tools and visual images on a true to life system providing a look and feel so close to reality, that at times it may be hard to distinguish the difference.

Introduction to the use of endourology scopes and tools is done by working on coordination skills and essential tasks for the review of anatomies, followed by the practice of actual procedures on a variety of virtual patient cases, each with its own unique anatomy and pathologies.

The Combined URO- PERC Mentor Platform Offers a Comprehensive Training Environment for Endourology and percutaneous renal access.

The URO Mentor’s unique hardware and software were developed for the simulation of cystoscopy and ureteroscopy procedures using actual case scenarios. The system features authentic rigid and flexible cystoscopes and ureteroscopes, including working channels for tool insertion.

To complete the training experience actual tool handles operate as they do in real procedures, providing the necessary practice with endourology tools prior to working on patients.

The PERC Mentor™ designed to provide hand on training in percutaneous renal access under fluoroscopic guidance.
Taking cost and convenience into consideration, the PERC Mentor™ add-on operates on the same platform as the URO Mentor™ with an additional mannequin to provide the puncture site.

The PERC Mentor™ platform, designed for realistic training, includes a mannequin that represents the virtual patient’s torso approached from the back.

The human anatomy is presented realistically, providing a life-like view of the entire urinary tract in both the scope view and the fluoroscopic view.

Real Time Fluoroscopy
Real time fluoroscopy with injection of a contrast agent, coupled with simulated C-Arm control, creates a true-to-life environment that enables trainees to learn and practice their navigation skills.

Various Endourological Devices
Tools and devices available for use in the simulations includes: guidewires, stents, balloon, forceps, Laser, EHL and more.

Variety of Practice Opportunities
The URO mentor provides an endourology training curriculum made up of basic skills, tutorials for procedural tasks, and simulation of full procedures. In addition, its cost-effective design can also offer training on all PERC mentor modules.

Reporting and Assessment
Performance reports provide quantifiable feedback to both the learner and the educator in order to assess skill level and training success. Many of the parameters provide more information than can be gained from observation alone. All performance reports are recorded and are accessible to the educator for assessment of degree of improvement over the course of training. Metrics include:
• Time and Economy of Movements
• Safety and Electrosurgical Dissection
• Procedural Errors: assessment of complications, tissue injury or bleeding
• Objective Analysis: automatic video recording of complete procedures combined with performance metrics enable objective observation and analysis of the procedure by the educator and learner.

Simbionix’s expert software and graphics team, in collaboration with medical experts from around the world, have created a library of virtual patient cases, each with different anatomies and pathologies, based on real medical data. Virtual patients have their own patient files with histories, imaging results and test results.

The URO Mentor library of cases is dynamic, with new cases continuously being developed and made available for ever expanding practice opportunities. Using the simulator, makes the practice opportunities of rare or difficult procedures available to any physician at his or her convenience.
